Adult Boat Building Class

Description: Tuesdays, January 7 - March 31, 6:30-9:30pm
THE BOAT We have identified the First Mate by Ross Lillistone as our guinea pig boat. You can check it out here.
https://smallboatsmonthly.com/article/first-mate/. Stitch and glue is a relatively simple construction method and is a great place for us to get our feet wet. This boat is complex enough that there will be sub-assemblies and opportunities to accommodate a few small groups working at one time. There are 3 separate sail plans offered and we should be able to build spars for at least one of the 3 options. If we have enough folks involved we may also touch on restoration and maintenance of other boats in the LNCS fleet. DATES & TIMES We are offering class sessions for 13 weeks on Tuesday nights from 6:30-9:30 starting January 7th and running through March 31st and will schedule every other Saturday on an as-needed basis starting January 11. We will attempt to schedule Saturday sessions not to conflict with Social Sails so you should be able to do both. Saturday Social Sails are weather driven so we will need to stay flexible with the timing. COST $200 for LNCS members $300 for non-members Fee is non-refundable. Non-members, in the class, who elect to join LNCS by March 31, 2020 will receive a $100 credit to be applied to membership fees. Fees cover the material costs for the class. Non-members are invited and encouraged to attend one social sail as a guest. Of course we encourage everyone who is not a member to consider joining to support this terrific organization and to enjoy Lake Norman more fully. Consider joining before years end to avoid the 2020 price increase. OTHER STUFF A Google doc will be maintained so that participants can indicate whether they plan to attend on any given date. This will allow us to plan for the most productive use of our time together. Participants will be required to sign a waiver prior to participation. We will all be responsible for doing our best to keep the shop clean and safe and orderly. If any registered participant would like to purchase the boat at the end of the build this is certainly encouraged. The price will be determined by LNCS and if multiple folks are interested they can drop their names in the hat for the chance to purchase the boat.
