Flying Scot Learn to Sail 2


Who Takes This Class:  This class is for new or less experienced Lake Norman Community Sailing Pass Holders who are Flying Scot skipper qualified and ready to take their sailing to the next level.

This class delves deeper into the basic skills taught in Flying Scot Learn to Sail and focuses on developing proper techniques. Some of the topics covered are:

  • Weather/Wind Forecast Reading
  • Evaluating Changing Wind Conditions on the Water
  • Proper Rigging (rigging for existing wind conditions)
  • Getting Underway (positioning boat for proper rigging and departure)
  • Proper Tacking (proper behind the back switching technique)
  • Proper Jibing (proper behind the back switching technique)
  • Run vs. Broad Reach (what is the difference and when to use either point of sail)
  • Proper Docking Technique
  • Proper De-Rigging (Rolling sails, maintenance gripes)

Dates are subject to change. Must have at least two students registered for a class to take place. You CAN sign up as an individual and we pair you with another student. No classes in August.

Duration:  One Day, 3 hour class
Cost:  $150/person 
Student Instructor Ratio:  6:1
Prerequisites:  Lake Norman Community Sailing Pass Holder; Flying Scot skipper (you have passed your skipper checkout)
If class is shortened or canceled due to weather, we will reschedule the remaining time at a later date. See make-up days at end of schedule.

  • Classes are scheduled upon request.
  • Please click here to put your name on the sign-up sheet for Flying Scot LTS 2 and list your preferred dates.
  • CALL the office at (704) 947-7245 to let us know you are interested and have put your name on the sign-up sheet.
  • You do not have to sign up with a partner but we must have at least 2 students to hold a class. We will contact you to coordinate dates when at least two students have signed up.
